Healing Residential School Survivors Through the Pisimweyapiy Counselling Centre

Nelson House Medicine Lodge Counselling Services provides outpatient counselling for Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation residential school survivors, their families and others impacted by residential schools. Counselling programs are delivered through the Pisimweyapiy Counseling Center, which is part of the Nelson House Medicine Lodge.

The Pisimweyapiy Counselling Center program is one of six such programs chosen for a review of best practices in Canada.

Every single pathology evidenced in and amongst aboriginal people today is borne of the residential school system.

Purpose

- The PCC Program is an outpatient program that works with Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation residential school survivors and those impacted by associated intergenerational effects. This includes individuals, their families and the community.

- PCC uses traditional and contemporary practices to promote and enhance holistic healing of people affected by residential schools

- The program offers a continuous intake of 15 or more people.
