We Are Hiring A Housekeeper/Janitor

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Housekeeper/Janitor is a key member of the NHML Maintenance Team, providing a range of services that include heavy lifting, hauling, cleaning, transporting materials, furniture and equipment. The primary function of the Housekeeper/Janitor is to maintain an orderly, sanitary and safe living and working environment for Relatives In Recovery, staff and visitors of the NHML.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Waste collection from designated areas throughout the facility and dispose accordingly
  • Maintain clean, sanitary and safe condition of the area and equipment according to established standards
  • Daily vacuuming, dusting and garbage removal of staff offices and other designated areas of the facility
  • Clean staff and public washrooms, walls, ceiling, floors, rugs and upholstery throughout the facility and operate associated equipment as per established procedures
  • Restock supplies in assigned areas
  • Other duties as may be assigned from time to time

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

  • Must possess a dependable, consistent and reliable work record including attendance at work
  • Minimum Grade 10 or equivalent; ability to read, write and speak English
  • Must have high degree of responsibility, integrity and confidentiality
  • Must be in good physical health
  • Must exhibit and practice cleanliness
  • Must demonstrate ability to work as a team player
  • Must demonstrate and exhibit a focus on the safety of Relatives In Recovery (clients)
  • A valid Manitoba drivers’ license and ability to speak Cree is an asset
  • Previous experience preferred

 

Reference to Supervisor:

  • Determine appropriate work routine to maintain a clean and orderly facility
  • Offer recommendations for improving efficiency within the Department
  • Prepare daily reports as needed and submit to Supervisor on a weekly basis
  • Dialogue with supervisor for problem solving

 

Guidelines for Role:

  • Treat all Relatives In Recovery, staff and public pertaining information with confidentiality
  • Work according to approved housekeeping policies and procedures
  • Work according to approved housekeeping and infection control standards and guidelines
  • The cleaning duties must be carried out so as not to interfere with treatment programming

 

Physical, Mental and Sensory Demands:

  • Work involves heavy lifting of up to 50-80 pounds or more, carrying supplies, equipment and materials
  • Use appropriate carts and mechanical aids to prevent workplace injury
  • Motor coordination is necessary to be able to operate equipment and to move equipment safely within the confines of the Relatives In Recovery’s rooms, hallways and ramps
  • Extensive standing and walking as well as stooping, kneeling, bending and crouching when performing daily job duties

 

Working Conditions:

Subject to injury from moving parts of cleaning equipment and from sharp objects such as needles, broken glass that may be in the garbage

May be in frequent contact with water and strong cleaning and disinfecting or degreasing solutions at which time protective equipment must be worn.
