SALARY RANGE: Negotiable, pending education and experience
WORKING HOURS: Monday to Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm and 1:00 – 9:00 pm; alternate shifts on weekends, holidays, and on-call.

Primary Role:

The Relative Support Worker provides culturally safe, compassionate support to individuals and families on their recovery journey. Working within a trauma-informed and strength-based approach, the worker helps Relatives In Recovery (clients) build healthy lifestyles, maintain recovery goals, develop life skills, and connect with community resources.

The Nelson House Medicine Lodge works with adults with medium to high levels of mental health and substance use disorders and has been exposed to significant serious or long-lasting trauma. Staff shall be aware of the inherent risks of working with this at-risk population we serve as well as other risks that may occur with new admissions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide emotional support, encouragement, and recovery coaching.
  • Assist in monitoring and implementing Relatives’ treatment, recovery, and wellness plans.
  • Assisting with group activities, recovery meetings, and cultural and land-based programming.
  • Support daily living skills, community integration, and sober living goals.
  • Advocate for Relatives In Recovery and help connect them to needed services and supports.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and uphold confidentiality.
  • Work with Recovery Coaches, Cultural Resource Worker and Land Based Coordinator
  • Participate in team meetings, training, and quality improvement activities.

Qualifications:

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and advocacy skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence and willingness to obtain Class 4 within six months.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Education And Experience:

  • Completion of, or willingness to obtain, required training (MHFA, ASIST, NVCI, Health & Safety, and Conflict Resolution).
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification is an asset.
  • Experience supporting individuals in recovery, including life skills development and participation in social activities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence (Class 4 is an asset) or willingness to obtain within six months of hire.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and advocacy skills.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check.

Salary Range: Pending qualifications and experience.
