POSITION SUMMARY:

The Nelson House Medicine Lodge Inc. is seeking applicants to fill one (1) board appointment, running from three – five years. The NHML Board of Directors is a policy driven entity which has two significant functions; the development/oversight of policies and procedures for the agency and secondly, provide direction to the Executive Director. Additional roles expected of board members may include active involvement in the NHML’s multi-year Accreditation Process as well as participating/attending NHML graduation and traditional ceremonial events.

Candidates for this position must be knowledgeable of the Treatment Centre’s processes, service delivery, confidentiality, conflict resolution, funding advocacy. Must role model a healthy lifestyle and be willing and able to share their knowledge, skills and expertise to benefit the organization. These positions come with modest honoraria and will entail occasional travel.

The Nelson House Medicine Lodge Board is part of the NCN Governance Model.

The Administrative Assistant is responsible for facilitating efficient and effective inter-office communications between the programs, services and staff of the Nelson House Medicine Lodge (NHML). The primary function of the Administrative Assistant is to assist management in maintaining a professional appearance of the organization, filing organizational records, communication of activities to the board, staff and clients.

Knowledge, Abilities and skills:

Exceptional knowledge, skills and abilities in general office practices and procedures, and the ability to type quickly and efficiently; Sound interpersonal & human relation skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and is familiar with using Microsoft Office suite.

Education and Experience Required

The preferred candidate must possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license, have an appropriate diploma/certificate from a recognized college or post-secondary institute plus one year of related work experience. A combination of education and work experience may be considered.

Salary: $41,600.00- $46,794.34 Pending qualifications and experience

JOB OPPORTUNITY RECEPTIONIST REQUIRED

The Receptionist plays a key role in representing the Nelson House Medicine Lodge. The Receptionist is responsible for maintaining the reception area, and keeping it clean and tidy. They must be punctual, friendly, polite and courteous to clients, staff, visitors and to the public at large. Must be aware of the programs and services offered at the NHML, and be able to provide general information to the public.

Primary Duties:

Greet all people coming in to the facility in a professional and courteous   manner; Answer the telephone, screen and direct calls to appropriate personnel; Record incoming / outgoing mail and faxes and place in appropriate mailbox /slot; Order supplies as required for staff and program needs; Ensure the supply room is stocked, clean and organized for staff to find office supplies easily. Assist Administrative Assistant with filing and other duties from time to time; and is responsible for retrieving and returning files in the filing room; and maintaining electronic filing system, or Addictions Management Information System (AMIS).

Salary Range:  Starting $33, 280.00 or $16/hr, Negotiable for increase pending qualifications and experience

Medicine Lodge Hiring Treatment Counsellor

If so, we are looking to hire 1 Treatment Counsellor to work with a dynamic team who enjoy empowering people who strive to live a good life, from the path of a good heart.

Job Summary

The Treatment Counsellor is an integral part of the treatment team that provides services for individuals struggling with substance dependency and/or concurrent disorders that impacts them in different life areas. Their primary function is to provide comprehensive assessments and treatment services for participants in the eight (8) week, inpatient treatment program.

This position requires knowledge of various counselling techniques, group facilitation and presentation skills, assessments, treatment planning and evaluation. Human relations skills are needed to guide, influence and motivate others to attain the Center’s goals and objectives. Must have a good understanding of Indigenous ways of healing that allows the promotion of culture as the foundation to their healing and recovery.

Hours of Work:

May alternate shifts on a rotation basis; from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or evening shifts from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and may include some Saturday and Sunday shifts.

Due to the nature of the program, the Treatment Counsellor must have at least one full year of abstinence, free of all substances.

Education and Experience Required:

Graduate from a recognized college or university with a degree or certificate in Social Work, counselling or related field preferred; or any combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, abilities, skills and competencies. Must have Class 5 minimum, and willing to obtain a Class 4 license. Must have clear Criminal Records Check (within the last 6 months). Must have basic knowledge of MS programs such as Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook and Excel, or willingness to obtain.

Required ASAP HOUSEKEEPER/JANITOR at the Nelson House Medicine Lodge

The Housekeeper/Janitor assists the Maintenance Team with maintaining the cleanliness of the facility in an orderly fashion. The primary role of the Housekeeper/Janitor is to ensure the building is kept sanitary to prevent the spread of infection and prevent odors.

Knowledge, Abilities and skills:

Must have a valid Class 5 license, or willing to obtain. Must have a good working knowledge in the use and storage of cleaning products and equipment used for cleaning the facility. The individual must be able to work independently and with the Maintenance Team.  The Housekeeper/Janitor must be able to communicate with program participants, staff and the general public in a friendly and courteous manner.

Education and Experience required:

High school diploma or a combination of training and work experience will be considered.  Ability to speak Cree would be an asset.

Salary:  Starting at $15/hr
