Position: One (1) Male Treatment Counsellor

Primary Role:
This position is an integral part of the treatment and prevention teams that provide traditional healing services for individuals struggling with substance dependency and/or concurrent disorders that impacts them in different life areas. Their primary function is to coordinate and deliver traditional and cultural activities offered in the Nelson House Medicine Lodge programs.
People selected for this position must be an abstainer of alcohol, cannabis & illegal drugs for at least 5 years. An understanding of Aboriginal culture & the ability to speak Cree is an asset.
Knowledge, Abilities And Skills:
- This position requires knowledge of various counselling techniques, group facilitation and presentation skills, assessments, treatment planning and evaluation.
- Human relations skills are needed to guide influence and motivate others to attain the Centre’s goals and objectives.
- Must have a good understanding of Indigenous ways of healing that allows the promotion of culture as the foundation to their healing and recovery.
Education And Experience:
- Graduate from a recognized college or university with a degree or certificate in Social Work, counselling or related field preferred; or any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, abilities, skills and competencies.
- Employer is willing to train candidates who do not have the education but demonstrate a passion and the ambition to work in this field. For a full job description, please enquire within.
- Must have Class 5 minimum, and willing to obtain a Class 4 license.
- Must have clear Criminal Records Check (within the last 6 months).
- Must have basic knowledge of MS programs such as Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook and Excel, or willingness to obtain.
